Darren Thompson Signature Flute
Introducing the first Darren Thompson Signature Flute, Jon Norris Music & Arts has launched a series of flutes that reflect both Darren and Jon's creativity and dedication to sharing the Native American flute with the world. Reflecting Darren's Ojibwe culture and heritage, the instrument is a birdhead flute decorated with the image of a crane. Many instruments collected in the late 1800's and early 1900's contain the images of birds in the decoration of the instrument to embody the significance of a particular bird to a person, family, or group of people. The crane has a very special significance to the Ojibwe people and their history. During his performances he shares aspects of the Ojibwe language and culture through sharing the story of the crane and its significance to the Ojibwe people. Reflecting on the traditional use of cedar among American Indian cultures for many material objects, the flute is made out of Eastern Red Cedar and is painted with original Earth pigments to provide a truly unique and historical instrument.
